Four suspected robbers were killed in mob beating at Chowdhury Dangi village of Faridpur Sadar upazila in the district on Saturday.
The identities of the deceased, aged between 25 and 40, could not be confirmed just after the incident, police said.
“At least 10 robbers equipped with lethal weapons and firearms swooped on the house of
one Matin Sheikh in the village around 2:30am. At one stage of the robbery, an announcement was made from the local mosque that a gang of robbers raided the house of Matin Sheikh.
Hearing it, the villagers gave the robbers a hot chase and managed to catch four of them and walloped them and left them dead,” said Nazimuddin Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station.
Being informed, law enforcers from Kotwali Police Station rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies along with a foreign made pistol, the police official claimed.
They bodies were sent to the Faridpur Medical College and Hospital for autopsy, he said.
Four villagers were injured when the robbers attacked them with sharp weapons. They were given treatment at local hospital, said Md Kamruzzaman, Additional Superintendent of Police, Faridpur.
When contacted, Charmadhabdia Union Chairman Tuhin Mandal said the incidents of robberies in his locality have increased alarmingly in he recent time. Fed up with it, the villagers clubbed the robbers.
