Four people were killed and four others injured in a separate motorcycle accidents on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in the space of 24 hours. Two motorcyclists were killed and another was injured when a bus overturned on the Tara Bridge around 10:30 pm on Tuesday.
A college student named Jewel, 25, and his friend Ashiq, 28, died on the spot. All of them are residents of Rathura village of Ghior upazila. The injured Hasibur Rahman Atut (24) has been admitted to Munnu Medical Hospital. Excited by the attraction of the accident, the crowd vandalized many vehicles stuck on the Tara Bridge and beat up the driver helpers. All these selfie transport buses have been temporarily suspended.
It is learned that the bus of Paturia-bound Selfie Paribahan crossed the Tara Bridge and hit the motorcycle of the three riders in front from behind. Two people, including a motorcyclist, got stuck in the front wheels of the bus. The other rider fell. When the bus driver tried to flee, he was caught by passengers and locals. Police and locals recovered the bodies of the stranded motorcyclists and riders after an arm effort. Excited people of Rathura village on the news of the accident set fire to another bus of Selfie Transport at Baniyajuri bus stand. Long traffic is created in both places. Due to the incident, the selfie transport bus service on the Dhaka-Aricha highway has been suspended since Wednesday morning.
