Four matches of the Walton 1st national women’s softball competition were decided on the opening day (Thursday) at Dhanmondi Sultana Kamal Women’s Sports Complex in the city, said a press release.
On the first day of the competition, Sirajganj district beat Dhaka Commerce College by 16-6 points, Dhaka district defeated Gazipur district by 5-4 points, Bangladesh Police outclassed Narail district by 12-1 points and Bangladesh Ansar overpowered Dhaka Metropolitan Police by 10-0 points.
A total of eight teams, split into two groups, are taking part in the meet, sponsored by Walton Group and organized by Bangladesh Baseball Soft ball Association.
The semi-finals of the competition will be held on Friday (December 22) while the final is slated on Saturday (December 23).
In this regard, a press conference was held on Wednesday at Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium to provide all the details of the meet.
Earlier, Walton Group operative director head of games and sports FM Iqbal Bin Anwar formally inaugurated the meet as chief the guest. Touhida Nupur, chairman of Social and Cyber Safety, Bangladesh was present as special guest.
Bangladesh Baseball Soft ball Association general secretary Aminul Islam Liton and other federation officials were present on the occasion.
Participating teams:
Group A – Bangladesh Police, Narail, Gazipur and Dahaka districts
Group B – Bangladesh Ansar, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, ASSP Sirajganj and Dahaka Commerce College.
