Four people, including a female schoolteacher, were killed and three others injured in separate incidents in Chadpur, Habiganj, Gazipur and Gopalganj districts on Tuesday morning.
In Chandpur, a female schoolteacher was killed in a road accident in front of Aliganj Primary Teachers Training Institute on the Chandpur-Comilla highway in Hajiganj upazila at about 9.30 am.
The deceased was identified as Salma Sultana,30, an assistant teacher of
Adarsha Government Primary School in the district town.
Officer-in-charge of Hajiganj Police Station Shah Alam said a speeding bus coming from Dhaka ran over Salma while she was crossing the road in the area around 9:30 am, leaving her seriously injured.
She was rushed to the upazila health complex where on-duty doctors declared her dead.
Locals put up a barricade on the highway to protest the accident, disrupting traffic for about an hour.
In Habiganj, a private car driver named Khasru Miah,22, a resident of Aishkandi village in Nabiganj upazila, was killed and three others were injured when a stone-laden truck collided with a private car coming from the opposite direction on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway near Shayestaganj Police Station at about 6:00 am.
In Gazipur, an unidentified young man, aged about 35, was killed as a train hit him at Tongi level-crossing at about 1:00 am. In Gopalganj, Alok Mandol,20, son of Shyamol Mandol, a resident of Domrashur village, was killed when a Bagherhat-bound paddy-leaden truck from Kotalipara knocked down him as he was standing beside the road, leaving him dead on the spot.
