Four HuJi men held with explosives

Staff Reporter :Detective Branch (DB) in separate drives recovered a lot of bomb making items, explosives and detonators from two newly unearthed laboratories in the Dhaka city and Narayangan district early in the morning on Saturday. Four members of the banned outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad Al Islami (HuJi) have also been arrested in this connection. They were identified as Md Rafique Ahmed alias Sajid, 34, Md Omar alias Robi, 25, Md Nadim Ahmed alias Sumon, 30, and Md Salahuddin Ahmed, 29. Among them, Rafique was operational leader and Omar was an explosive expert. But Nadim and Salahuddin were active members of the organisation.Monirul Islam, Joint Commissioner and Spokesman of DB, disclosed this in a briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police’ (DMP) Media Centre on Minto Road in the capital on Saturday morning.Monirul Islam said that DB men conducted simultaneous drives in Uttara and Tikatuli areas of the capital and Fatullah in Narayanganj following a secret information early in the morning on Saturday and arrested them with deadly explosives, detonators and bomb-making materials from their possession. Besides, the detective personnel also busted a bomb-making den during the drive.He said that the intelligence teams recovered the explosive materials in two unearthed laboratories from the city’s Wari area and Narayanganj’s Fatullah upazila during the operation. “Even during the primary interrogation, they admitted that they were planning to attack the high-profile people of Dhaka, Chittagong and Rajshahi, said the DB official.He said that cases have been filed with the DMP’s Wari Police Station and Fatullah Police Station on Saturday.
