Police arrested four members of an inter-district gang on Saturday night in the capital over snatching people’s valuables.
According to DB officials, the arrestees have been committing various crimes including mugging implicating themselves as members of law enforcement agencies for a long time.
After filing a snatching case with the Dhanmondi Police Station, police arrested them with a stolen car, several cellular phones, grill
cutting machines and other items from their possession.
AKM Hafiz Akter, Additional Commissioner, DB, confirmed the matter to the media and said that the arrestees used to vehicles and for robbing various snatch shops around the capital city.” After committing crimes, they even left the snatched car so that they will not be caught by police in future, AKM Hafiz added.
Earlier, this gang looted at least 25 shops in Gachha area of Gazipur.
According to the police, a group of peddlers used to snatch the vehicles in the guise of hawkers in different areas. After that, they raided the market and looted shops around the city shopping malls with the cars.
During this time they introduced themselves as members of the police.
A victim trader said, many shops have been robbed in our area recently. One gang entered the area around 2 pm in the night and then they introduced themselves as members of law enforcement.
There are several robbery cases in different police stations in the name of the arrestees, adding that the operation is going on to arrest the remaining members of the gang, said DB official.
Meanwhile, a court of Dhaka yesterday put four suspected car thieves on a day’s remand each in a case filed for vehicle theft and a shop looting.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order on Sunday.
The accused are Siddiqur Rahman Nuru Mia, Hemayet Hossain alias Himu and Abul Bashar.
Earlier, Investigation Officer produced the accused in the court seeking seven days’ remand.
On January 6, Lalbagh Division’s detective police arrested the four people in a case filed with Mirpur Model Police Station.
