Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) on Tuesday recovered four gold bars weighing 464 grams worth Tk 24 lakh at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the city.
The gold bars were being carried secretly inside the shoe of an inbound passenger, who was identified as Md Abdul Mannan, resident of Chittagong Halisahar.
The CIID team is suspecting that a passenger from Muscat, Oman handed those gold bars to Abdul Mannan to carry, as the flight of Biman Bangladesh had landed at HSIA via Chittagong from Muscat.
CIID arrested Abdul Mannan under Customs law and transferred him to the Airport Police station.
