Police in Halishahar area of Chittagong city on Sunday arrested four female members of a fraud gang that demands money from youths by trapping them and taking photographs in compromising situation.
The arrestees are Zarina Begum, 50, Bibi Kulsum, 40, Muktar Begum, 27 and Parvin Begum Akhi, 25, of the area.
Officer-in-Charge of Halishahar Police Station Pranab Chowdhury said the four were arrested after a youth, Sadek, filed an allegation early yesterday against them.
According to the allegation, Kulsum who used to talk with Sadek over the phone regularly, asked him to come to her house at B Block in the area on Saturday night.
As soon as Sadek entered her house other members of the gang tied him up and took some obscene photographs with two women. Later, they demanded Tk 50,000 from Sadek and threatened him to circulate the photographs on the internet if he did not pay the money.
Sadek managed to give them Tk 5,000. The group took away his mobile phone set and forced him to sign a blank stamp paper before letting him go.
Later, following Sadek’s complaint, police arrested Kulsum raiding the house and recovered the mobile phone set.
