Four drug peddlers sentenced to life imprisonment

A Barisal Court on Tuesday afternoon sentenced four out of five accused to life imprisonment with per-head Tk 20 thousand as fine or to serve more one year in jail for drug peddling.
Rafiqul Islam, judge of the tribunal for preventing crime against public safety, after examining 11 witnesses and other evidences declared this verdict.
Another accused Yusuf Hossain of Vatikhana of Barisal city, acquitted from the charge by the court founding not guilty.
Among the sentenced four accused Munna Talukdar of Joypur Hut of Khulna was present in the court and Zaman Hossain Talukdar of Ramnagor of Jhalakathi, Hafizur Rahman of Sarsha of Jessore and Mintu Sheikh of Jatrapur of Bagerhut, the rest three remained absconding during the trial and judgment.
Firozul Islam, bench clerk of the court, acknowledging the facts, said a team of Rapid Action Battalion singled a truck to stop at a check post in Rupatali near Jagua College Gate area of the city on January 8, 2015.
However the truck ignoring the signal tried to flee and then chasing the vehicle law enforcers succeeded to stop that.
After searching the truck 280 bottles Phensydyl were recovered from the vehicle.
Mashiur Rahman, deputy assistant director of RAB, as complainant lodged a case against 8 accused under narcotic control act with Kotwali police station on the same night.
Sub Inspector Delwar Hossain, investigation officer of the case, lodged charge sheet against 5 accused on February 20, 2015.
