Dhaka University (DU) Criminology Department observed its 4th founding anniversary on Saturday. LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain joined the function as the chief guest while DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Faruk Khan, MP, Deputy Inspector General of Police Monirul Islam were present as special guests.
“The nation is moving ahead to become a developed one. Society is not free from crimes. Research and education in the field of criminology is very time-befitting to check crimes in the society,” Mosharraf Hossain said.
He hoped the criminology students would play important role in future to prevent crimes.
Prof Arefin Siddique said every day the nature of crime is changing and cyber crime is also increasing.
He underscored the need for identifying nature of crimes, takings steps against crimes and creating awareness in checking crimes in the society.
At the beginning of the function, an anniversary cake was cut and a documentary on four-year activities of the department was screened.
Earlier, a colorful procession was brought out from Aparajeyo Bangla that marched different campus thoroughfares.
