Tourism and Hospitality Management Department of Daffodil International University (DIU) has celebrated its 5th Anniversary on Wednesday with colorful events including cake cutting, discussion meetingand cultural program at Banquet Hall of the university.
Prof Dr SM Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Engr AKM Fazlul Hoque, Registrar, Prof Dr Md. Golam Mowla Choudhury, Controller of Examinations, Dr Mohammed Masum Iqbal, Dean, Faculty of Business & Entrepreneurship (FBE), Mahbub Parvez, Head, Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management of DIU, Md. Akhtaruzzaman Khan Kabir, Chairman, Bangladesh Porjoton Corporation, Md. Jamiul Ahmed, Member, Bangladesh Tourism Board, Muhammad Soshel Ahmed, Assistant Director, Dhaka Regency, Pervez Chowdhury, Director and Principal, National Hotel & Tourism Training Institute, Abdus Salek, Managing Director, Hotel Ornate, Dr Anupam Hossen, CEO, Sports Vision, Abu Sufian, Editor, Vramon Magazine, S M Shahab Uddin, Director, Industry Skill Council, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Managing Director of Amadius, Hanif Zakaria, Chief Commercial Officer, Regent Airways and many other distinguish guest were present in the program as honorable guests.
At one stage of the program Prof Dr Yousuf M Islam, Vice chancellor of DIU attended the program through video conference from China.
While addressing through video conference Prof Dr Yousuf M Islam said that he was now in China due to the reason of signing MoU with many International Hotel of China for internship purpose of HTM departments’ students.
He congratulated to the students for 5th anniversary and also said that tourism career is now open globally. So that DIU is always committed to make their students as internationally skilled.
Addressing on the program Prof Dr SM Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder said that Tourism and Hospitality Management is a potential sector. For building career in this sector, communication skill is must.
So that you have to learn Malay, China and Japanese language beside English. You have also to skilled in technology. He added.
Speakers said that tourism and hospitality management is a thrust and rapidly growing sector in Bangladesh. Lots of skilled people are needed in this sector to flourish it, but the number of skilled manpower is very limited as per requirement.
To mitigate this huge demand of skilled manpower, national and international organizations have to come forward besides government initiatives, they added.
