Chattogram Bureau :
An initiative has been taken to establish a Cancer Hospital and Research Institute in the port city. The foundation stone of the proposed cancer hospital will be laid on Thursday (February 4). Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed is expected to lay the foundation stone of the hospital.
This information was given at a press conference held at Chattogram Seniors Club yesterday. In a written statement at the conference, member-secretary Rezaul Karim Azad said that deadly cancer has reached alarming proportions across with the country. Children, teenagers, young and old, men and women of all ages are being infected cancer.
In the port city there is no complete treatment for cancer at the government-private level. For this reason, most of the cancer patients here have to depend on Dhaka for treatment. He said, but it is not possible for most patients to go to Dhaka for treatment. Many patients die prematurely due to lack of treatment. However, due to the excellence of medical science, cancer patients are also getting better through timely treatment.
They can lead a normal life after recovery .. Realizing this, we have taken initiative to establish a cancer hospital. Md. Rezaul Karim Azad said that at present a medical service is being run in the cancer department of Mother and Child Hospital under the supervision of a team of specialist doctors. But compared to the population of Chattogram division, the existing service system is very inadequate. At present, the cancer department of Mother and Child Hospital is admitting 30 people every day in the outpatient department and 10 beds in the indoor department. But many patients are not going to be admitted every day due to lack of beds.
He said 4,142 patients have already received chemotherapy in the cancer department of the hospital and a total of 6,008 patients have received medical services in the indoor and outdoor departments. Therefore, in the current reality of the growth rate of cancer patients, a self-contained cancer hospital in Chattogram has become essential. But money is the main factor in establishing a specialized hospital. We think that about Sixty lakh people live in port city.
If every person donates 100 takas for this cancer hospital, then in a moment it will become a fund of 60 crore takas for this hospital. We are moving forward with such an expectation. MA Malek, Chairman of Cancer Hospital Implementation Committee and Editor of Daily Azadi gave welcome speech on the occasion.
Former President of Press Club Abu Sufian, Vice-Chairman of Cancer Hospital Implementation Committee SM Abu Tayyab, Honorary Project Director of Hospital Building Engineer Ali Ashraf, Acting President of Chattogram Mother and Child Hospital Syed Morshed Hossain, General Secretary of Chattogram Press Club Chowdhury Farid and Journalist Hasan Akbar spoke on the occasion. Dr. Anjuman Ara Islam, Dr. Ariful Amin and Dr. Shefatuzzahan answered to the questions of the journalists in the press meet.
