State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid laid the foundation stone of the Bangladesh Gallery titled `Bangladesh and Rabindranath’ recently at Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata’s Jorasanko area.
Speaking on the occasion, Khalid said, Rabindranath Tagore had a soul-searching relationship with Bangladesh. All the memorabilia of Rabindranath in Bangladesh at that time will be showcased in the Bangladesh Gallery and the government is working to this end, he said.
Cultural Affairs Secretary Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Rabindra Bharati University Vice-Chancellor Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chowdhury, Cultural personality Ramendra Majumder, Bangla Academy Director General Habibullah Siraji, Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Toufique Hassan and Ashim Kumar Ukil MP were, among others, present on the occasion.
Initially, the Bangladesh Culture Ministry has allocated 75 lakh Indian Rupees for setting up this gallery.
