Fostering literature to resist militancy stressed

Literary personalities at a conference today called for nurturing Bengali literature, art and culture to build an enlightened society for eliminating social curses like superstitions, drug abuse, terrorism and militancy.
They made the call at the ‘Bibhagiyo Sahittya Sommelon (Divisional Literature Conference)-2019 held at Rangpur Town Hall auditorium in the city.
Rangpur Bibhagiyo Lekhok Parishad (BLP), a reputed regional literary organisation, organised the daylong conference in observance of its ninth founding anniversary.
Around 400 literary personalities, including writers, poets, poem lovers and academics, literary and socio-cultural personalities from all eight districts of Rangpur division and Naogaon, Pabna, Rajshahi and Bagura districts also participated in the conference.
Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Rangpur Carmichael College Professor Muhammad Alim Uddin inaugurated the conference by hoisting of the national flag, releasing balloon and cutting cake in the morning session.
Presided over by Professor Muhammad Alim Uddin, noted writer Anwara Syed Haque attended the evening session of the conference as chief guest.
Moderated by General Secretary of BLP Zakir Ahmed, its President poet SM Sathi Begum, former Treasurer of Begum Rokeya University Professor Mozammel Haque and some 50 poets and writers, addressed the conference.
Professor Alim Uddin suggested the young writers and poets to improve their standard of writings to contribute to build a culturally and economically developed ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
BLP awarded eight literary personalities of all eight districts of Rangpur division with crests for their laudable contribution to Bengali literature.
The award recipients are AKM Bishu (Rangpur), Nasrine Rubi (Thakurgaon), Professor Jalil Ahmed (Dinajpur), Rakibul Hasan Golzar (Kurigram), Sultan Uddin Ahmed (Gaibandha), Ariful Islam Pallab (Panchagarh), Ferdousi Begum Beauty (Lalmonirhat) and Tamanna Sultana Tuli (Nilphamari).
