Forty injured in DU BCL factional clash

At least 40 students were injured in a clash between two factions of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall unit, over a trifling matter on the Dhaka University campus in the wee hours of Friday.
The injured students were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH)
for treatment. Being informed, the DU Proctorial team along with Shabagh police rushed to the spot and restored law and order.
Sources said that a brawl ensued between activists of the two groups when supporters of Jashimuddin Hall unit BCL President Mehedi Hasan beat a supporter of Zia Hall unit President Abdus Salam Pradhan Shaon over a trifling matter around 2:00 am.
Later, both groups equipped with sticks and weapons attacked each other, triggering a clash.
A chase and counter-chase took place during the incident. Both the groups hurled brick chips at each other, leaving 40 people injured.
The injured BCL men had been identified as Zia Hall President Salman Prodhan, Vice-President Zayd Bin Jalil, BCL activists Nazir, Jahir, Farhad, Ehsan, Rustom, Sadek, Bashir, Limon, Reaz, Junayed, Siraj, Moor, Ashraf, Choton and Arafat and Jasim Uddin hall BCL Vice-President Jitu, Vice-President Aminul, Ashraful, Asif, Kawsar, Tanvir, Sujan and Al Amin. Names of the other injured BCL men could not be identified instantly.
However, none was arrested in this connection, said Shabagh police station OC Serajul Islam.
 “Around 40 persons were injured in the clash between students of the two halls. They were taken to DMCH for primary treatment. However, no one was seriously injured,” said the university’s Acting Proctor Amzad Ali.
