Bangabandhu T20 Cup: Fortune Barishal reach play-off stage

Fortune Barishal reached the play-off stage beating Beximco Dhaka by two runs in their last round robin league match of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Saturday.
Barishal earned six points from eight matches to earn their berth in last four.
Earlier, Gazi Group Chattogram, Gemcon Khulna and Beximco Dhaka confirmed their play-off places collecting 14, 8 and 8 points respectively from eight matches.
Batting first Barishal piled up a huge total of 193
 
for the loss of three wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then restricted Beximco Dhaka to 191 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.
Fortune Barishal made a solid start with the openers Saif Hasan and Tamim Iqbal contributing together 59 runs in the opening stand before Tamim Iqbal (19) was caught by Sabbir Rahman off Al-Amin Hossain.
Later, Saif Hasan was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Rubel Hossain when Barishal’s score was 102 for the loss of three wickets.
Saif Hasan hit a marvelous 50. His 43-ball innings saw eight fours.
After Saif’s dismissal, Afif Hossain and Towhid Hridoy contributed 91 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket partnership.
Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten with 51. He cracked four sixes and two fours in his 22-ball hurricane innings.
Afif Hossain remained unbeaten with 50. His 25-ball typhoon innings had five sixes and one four.
Al-Amin Hossain, Rubel Hossain and Muktar Ali of Beximco Dhaka took one wicket each for five, 28 and 48 runs respectively.
Later, Beximco Dhaka had a good start as the openers Mohammad Naim and Sabbir Rahman put on together 52 runs for the opening partnership before Sabbir Rahman (19) was caught by Sumon Khan off Sohrawordi Shuvo.
After Sabbir’s dismissal, one down Mushfiqur Rahim (5) was trapped to leg before wicket by Shuvo when Dhaka’s total was 62 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Al-Amin Hossain (0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mahidul Islam off Shuvo when Dhaka’s score was 62 for the loss of three wickets.
Then Mohammad Naim and Yasir Ali fought back adding together 110 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Naim was caught by substitute Tanvir Islam off Sumon Khan when Dhaka’s total was 172 for the loss of four wickets.
Naim hit a terrific 105. His 64-ball innings saw seven sixes and eight fours. Naim was adjudged the Man of the Match.
After Naim’s dismissal, Yasir Ali was dismissed for 41. He was run out by a joint-effort of Mahidul Islam and Kamrul Islam Rabbi when Dhaka’s score was 178 for the loss of five wickets.
Then Muktar Ali (6) was dismissed by Kamrul Islam Rabbi when Dhaka’s total was 185 for the loss of six wickets.
