Former Secretary M Akmal Husain, 71, passed away early Tuesday at BIRDEM hospital in the city. Born in January, 1945 in Greater Sylhet, Mr Akmal started his career as a member of the then Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP) in 1969. After retirement from the government service he also acted as the Advisory Editor of The New Nation for a brief period. Earlier, he was a lecturer of Chemistry of Dhaka University for three years. He was also the president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). His first namaz-e-janaza was held yesterday at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Zohr prayers followed by a second one at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asar prayers. He will be buried beside the grave of his mother at the family graveyard at Chhatak in Sunamganj today (Wednesday). His qul khwani will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asar paryers on August 8. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and Information Secretary Martuja Ahmed have expressed deep shock at the death of Akmal Hossain. They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to members of the bereaved family.
