A Dhaka Court on Wednesday sentenced Yusuf Ali Mridha, former General Manager of Bangladesh Railway (East Zone) to five years’ imprisonment on the charge of graft.
Judge Aminul Islam of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-9 pronounced the verdict on Wednesday. The court sentenced him three years in prison and
fined him Tk 15 lakh for acquiring wealth through illegal means. He will have to spend another one year in prison if he fails to pay the fine. The court also sentenced him another two years in prison for hiding information in his wealth statement. Mridha was present on the dock during the pronouncement of the verdict.
Mridha hide information of Tk 1,734,910 in his wealth statement submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Besides, he acquired wealth worth Tk 4,009,910 illegally.
