Former mayor acquitted from corruption case

FormerMayor of Chittagong City Corporation and Jatiya Party leader Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury has been acquitted from a corruption case of 25 years ago.
In the long period of more than two decades, 2 accused expired and finally former Mayor acquitted. Divisional special judge of Chittagong Mir Ruhul Amin announced this verdict on Thursday.
PP of the special judge court Advocate Mezbahuddin Chowdhury told this correspondent that defense counsel prayed for acquitting the accused former Mayor from the allegations under section of Cr.PC 265© and after hearing the both the sides, the court acquitted him from the charge.
 Court sources said Anti-Corruption Bureau filed a corruption case against Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury before the Kotwali thana on October 9, 1991 for alleged misappropriation of Tk.13 lakh from CCC fund.
The demised accused were Shamsul Hoque and Shantipada Sen , both were the accounts office during the period , sources said.
