Shahana Afrin Dina, a former student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) won the Joy Bangla Youth Award 2021 in climate and innovation category.
Dina received the award on behalf Steps Ahead, a Barishal base voluntary organization on Monday from Trustee of Center for Research and Information (CRI) Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby in Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Youth Development Center, Savar.
She along with 4 people founded the organization on 2018 which is currently working with the marginalized girls and women of the coastal area of Bangladesh. Along with awareness raising on gynecological health complexities and hygiene kit distribution programs, Steps Ahead is working to revive Shitolpati and provides training on handicraft making, sewing and graphics designing.
It introduces a project titled home-factory where a female can engage in income-generating activities from her home by pro-environment products.
Completing graduation and post-graduation from JU economics department, Dina is currently working as a lecturer of Economics department at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University.
The JBYA 2021 authority have selected a number of 15 organizations under 5 categories from 750 applications of youth-led organizations from all over the country.
Although the award is conferred once every two years but this time the interval has been shortened down to one year to coincide 50th anniversary of independence of Bangladesh.
