The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 on Tuesday framed three charges of crimes against humanity against six alleged Razakars from Gaibandha, including former Jamaat lawmaker Ghoramara Aziz.
The accused are Abu Saleh Mohammad Abdul Aziz Miah alias Ghoramara Aziz, 65, Md Ruhul Amin alias Monju, 61, Md Abdul Latif, 61, Abu Muslim Mohammad Ali, 59, Md Nazmul Huda, 60, and Md Abdur Rahim Miah, 62. All of them are still on the run.
Justice Anwarul Haque, chairman of the three-member panel of the ICT-1, passed the order, initiating the trial in absentia. The tribunal set August 2 for submitting opening statement by the prosecution and recording depositions of the state witnesses.
According to the charge number one, the accused along the Pakistani occupation army, raided village Malibari under Sadar upazila in Gaibandha on October 9, 1971. The detained four unarmed civilians and tortured them. The accused later threw one Ganesh Chandra Barman into river by tying his hands and legs, drowning him. The accused also looted the many houses on that day.
The second charge said the accused on October 9, 1971, detained Chhatra League leader and Freedom Fighter Md Boyz Uddin from Matherhat Bridge area and took him to the Razakar camp. There, they tortured him for three days and later gunned him down.
According to the third charge, from October 10 to October 13, 1971, the accused picked up 13 local representatives from five unions under Sundarganj upazila in Gaibandha.
