Former general secretary of Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) and noted hockey player Shamsul Bari died at a hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday morning. He was 74.
He had been suffering from old age complications before he died yesterday.
He left behind his wife, two sons and a bunch of well-wishers to mourn his death.
He was the former vice-president of Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club.
Bari had served as the general secretary of BHF from 1988 to 2007. He had also acted as the joint-secretary of BHF from 1984 to 1988.
He played hockey in the different clubs of Dhaka. After finishing his playing career, he had worked as judge and also had conducted as umpire. He was also the deputy-general secretary of Bangladesh Olympic Association.
His namaz-e-janaza was held after Zuhr prayers at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday. He was buried at the Banani Graveyard in the afternoon.
Acting General Secretary of Bangladesh Hockey Federation Mohammad Yousuf, the other officials of BHF and President of Bangladesh Football Federation Kazi Salahuddin expressed deep shock and consolation to the bereaved family in separate messages on Tuesday.
