Former Dhaka WASA official imprisoned in bribe case

A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced Khandker Jahidur Rahman, a former field officer of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA), to four years imprisonment and fined Taka 50 thousand in a case lodged in connection with taking Taka two lakh as bribe.
Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of the Special Judge Court-9 of Dhaka pronounced the judgment in presence of the convict. The court after the judgment sent the convict to the prison with conviction warrant.
The court also ordered authorities concerned to return Taka two lakh bribe money to Ashek Sadek Chowdhury, the complainant of the case.
Khandker Jahidur Rahman demanded Taka two lakh in bribe from Ashek Sadek Chowdhury of Uttarkhan in the city for regularizing the bill for a deep tube well in 2018. Chowdhury informed the matter to the Anti-Corruption Commis-sion (ACC) and the anti-graft body on June 26, 2018, caught Rahman red-handed while receiving the bribe money.
The ACC lodged the case with Uttara East Police Station in the capital on the same day and submitted the charge-sheet on October 30, 2018.
