Former 179 MPs of 8th Parliament have demanded resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to end the ongoing political impasse. The MPs, who are also BNP leaders, urged the PM to sit in talks after resignation.
They made the demand in a joint statement issued on Sunday signed by BNP publicity secretary and former Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque.
BNP standing committee members Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Tariqul Islam, MK Anwar and Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, the party leaders Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf, Shahjahan Siraz, Abdullah-al-Noman, Selima Rahman, Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed Birbikram, Air Vice-Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury and Dr M Osman Faruque are among the former MPs, whose name were mentioned in the statement.
They said that the resignation of the prime minister and the mid-term polls are the way out from the ongoing political crisis. The PM should find out her safe exit through holding talks with BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, they added.
The former MPs protested and condemned the government’s beahviour with Khaleda Zia like confining her in the office, disconnection of electricity and communication supplies and stopping of food supply to her office. The behaviour is illegal and violation of human rights. It is also violation of country’s constitution, they said.
They criticised the government for killing and arresting leaders and workers of the opposition parties, and asked the government to stop the repressive acts. They also demanded the release of the arrested leaders and workers.
