Police have recovered the body of the daughter-in-law of a former Awami League MP from his Dhaka residence.
The former Jessore MP Khan Tipu Sultan claims Shamaruf Majhabin Kona, 24, wife of his elder son Humayun Sultan, committed suicide.
She was a student at Dhaka’s Holy Family Medical College.
Doctors declared her dead when she was taken to the Central Hospital from their Dhanmondi residence on Thursday, Khan Sultan told bdnews24.com. Hospital staff said Sultan’s wife had brought her daughter-in-law there Police also rushed there.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Dhanmondi Assistant Commissioner Rejaul Islam said the couple had a brawl over a telephone call on Wednesday.
They left the house on Thursday morning. After coming back, Kona told their domestic help that she had some work to do in her room and locked the door, he said.
She did not respond when she was called for lunch.
Others in the house broke into her room and found her hanging from a bathroom grill with a scarf round her neck, Islam added.
Kona’s mother, Jesmin Ara, is a doctor at the Holy Family Medical College, while her father, Nurul Islam, is a PWD engineer.
