Formation of mango begins predicting excellent output

The concerned officials and experts are expecting excellent mango output this season as the process of tender mango formation has already begun smoothly amid favorable climatic condition in the northern districts.
According to the officials and experts in the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Burirhat Horticulture Centre, Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) and agronomists, over 90 percent mango trees have bloomed during this season.
According to the mango growers and market sources, the local and indigenous variety mangoes will appear in the local markets by May next while the imported ‘Sundari’ and other varieties Indian mangoes by the next month.
Horticulture Specialist Khondker M Mesbahul Islam of the DAE said the fruit setting stage is progressing and the mango tress started wearing eye-catching looks in orchards and homesteads amid favourable climatic condition so far.
There are about 4.5 million fruit-giving mango trees of different ages and varieties on some 35,000 hectares in the northern districts and the number continues increasing every year following expansion of commercial mango cultivation.
The farmers have been showing more interests on commercial basis farming of the sweetest mangoes like Gopalbhog, Lengra, Fazlee, Nakfazlee, Khirsapati, Mohanbhog, Chyatapori, Haribhanga and Lakhna in the northern districts in recent years, he said.

Research Centre of BARI here Dr Hamim Reza said the farmers have been contacting with the officials and experts and taking extensive care to make the tender mangoes grow better.
Deputy Director of the DAE Feroz Ahmed said the concerned officials and experts have been providing necessary assistances to the farmers in taking extensive care for excellent mango production after massive budding this season.
The experts suggested the farmers to contact with the concerned field level officials of different agriculture related departments and organisations for proper nursing at this stage and controlling attacks by hoppers and other pests for better mango production.
Associate Director- Agriculture of BRAC International (South Asia & Africa) Dr MA Mazid predicted excellent mango production this season if climatic condition, fluctuation in temperature, rainfall, attack by pests and insects remain within limit in coming weeks.
Acting Regional Additional Director of the DAE Abdul Jalil predicted better mango production if the droughts do not prolong, temperature does not go very high and extents of seasonal nor’westers remain within tolerable limits this season.
