Media workers organised a sit-in programme demanding the removal of Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu at Rajshahi on Sunday.
Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and the Rajshahi Union of Journalists (RUJ) jointly organised the programme in front of the office of Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner at 11pm on Sunday morning.
RUJ President Kazi Shahed, Secretary Mamun -ur- Rashid, Tanvir Rahman Masum, member of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Jabed Apu, Rajshahi Bureau Chief of the SA TV Ziaul Ghani Selim, Kemera Person Abu Saeed, Saifur Rahman Rocky and Habibur Rahman Pappu , Staff Reporter of the Daily Ittefaq Anisuzzaman, reporter Mahbub Alam of Daily Prothom Alo, Senior Reporter of Rajshahi Daily Sonali Songbad Tayebur Rahman, among others spoke in the protest rally .
In the brief speech, they said that in 2012, the 8th wage board for media workers was formed and it was declared in September 2013 . The salary and allowances did not increase at the desired rate. The government assured at that time that as early as possible another wage board would be announced. But the assurance was not implemented, but the salary and allowances of the government employees were doubly increased .
They said, discussing the salary allowance with the Information Minister for two years. But the minister repeatedly broke it with the promise. At times, they are taking refuge in deception. For the last one year, the owners are not giving the representative, they are excusing the not being the wage board.
Besides, the journalist alsi demamded scrapping of Section 57 of ICT Act.
