Chapainawabganj Correspondent :
Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj Sardar Sarafat Ali said, mobile court has been conducting at the main mango markets of the district including Kansat and formalin could not be detected in mangoes, vegetables and fish.
If formalin cannot be detected for the seven successive days, Kansat mango market would be declared as formalin free market, he added.
He said this in a function arranged to hand over the formalin-detecting machine to the Chapainawabganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Chamber at its conference room arranged it in the evening with the association of Prime Bank Limited with the president of the Chamber and director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Md. Abdul Wahed in the chair.
Among others, DC, Chapainawabganj Sardar Sarafat Ali, Vice President of FBCCI Helal Uddin, director of the same Abu Motaleb, Babu Bijoy Kumar Kejriwal and president of Kansat Mango Market Dealers Association Nazrul Islam spoke on the occasion.
Vice president of FBCCI Helal Uddin said, about 70 tons of formalin is required for the different mills and factories of the country but about 750 tons of formalin is being imported. Where does this huge amount of formalin go, he asked. He said, it is being used on different food items. Only formalin detecting machine can not stop food adulteration if the mentality of the dealers can not be changed, he added.
He further added that if the businessmen can remain honest, none can harass them. “If you are harassed, we will take action,” he said again.
Abdul Wahed said, “The holy month of Ramazan is close at hand. It is our duty to keep the honour of the month. Do business honestly keeping this in mind.” The speakers sought the interference of the administration so that mangoes can be transported to different parts of the country without harassment. They asked to take action against the corrupt businessmen only after laboratory test in stead of destroying the fruits immediately.
