Development activists at a meeting called for forging social resistance and movement to end violence against women and children to make exploitation free society. “All of us should raise voice and work together to address the social problem collectively as only the government or any other single organisation cannot bring any positive result in this regard”, they added. Association for Community Development (ACD) organised the meeting in its conference hall in Rajshahi recently in observance of ‘International Day against Violence on Women-2018’.
“Creating awareness about demerits of Child Marriage to end Violence against Women and Children” was the main slogan of the meeting. Chaired by ACD Executive Director Salima Sarwar, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Programme Manager Ali Hossain, Project Coordinator Miraj Uddin Talukder, Project Officer Hafijuddin, Monitoring and Documentation Officer Ruhul Amin and Community Mobilizer Shamsun Nahar. To mark the day, the ACD also brought out a rally from its office premises and paraded some of the city streets to create public awareness against violence towards women.
Terming the child marriage as the major violation of human rights, Salima Sarwar said there is no alternative but to check it substantially. The community people and mass-media should come forward positively, she said.
“We need to establish social networks and alliances involving government and non-government organisations, community people, civil society and media to reach this goal,” she added.
