RAB-3 has unearthed a serious forgery in National ID Card. According to media report, one Jahidur Rahman (36), accused as human trafficker, obtained a National ID Card using all other facts of another person except his own photograph and finger print on 10 May, 2010. Using this ID Card he managed an international passport for him and travelled abroad several times. He is now under custody.
Detection of this type of crime is alarming for national security. Forgery is a chronic disease in our society. But there are categories of it. The forgery to manage false National ID Card is a serious offence. Only one crime of this type was detected; exposing the possibility of more such crimes that may happen. It exposed the vulnerability of the security system of this data bank. Apparently it may be seen as a single isolated case. But the real danger is in the vulnerability of the system. Because such penetration in the data security system could lead to unbelievable disaster threatening the national security too. How this crime could occur is a big question. If there is any manual loophole that should be closed immediately. There should be thorough investigation into the matter to ensure whether any such incident happened before or not. If it is found that someone or a group inside the department are culprit, he or they must not be spared.
We should understand the sensitive importance of National ID Card and the need to protect the data bank having personal information of the citizens of the country. By issuing this card state is confirming that bearer of the card is a genuine citizen of the country; he is worthy to get certain facilities; and he has no serious criminal record. So, if forgery can penetrate successfully in this process then the whole thing will lose its trustworthiness. It is more important because we are passing through a difficult time. Threat of terrorists from home and abroad is a big concern now which may destabilise our society and state machinery. Therefore, we must be very careful as no unwanted person can move with false National ID Card and act against the nation. Hence, there is no scope to take the incident of NID forgery casually. Serious action should be taken against the culprit as no one can dare to do the same crime in future.
