Forex, gold seized at HSIA

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) on Thursday seized 2.49 lakh Saudi Riyal equivalent of Tk 52, 29,000 from a woman passenger at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
Tipped off, a team of CIID kept an eye on the passenger at domestic terminal of HSIA and identified her as Khadija Begum, age 70, resident of Gazipur sadar.
Primary investigation revealed that a person
 named Sohel motivated her to carry that Saudi Riyal in exchange of Tk 1,00,000 to Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport (SAIA).
CIID team is suspecting her as a carrier and that the Saudi Riyal was being carried to launder through SAIA due to heavy restriction at HSIA.
As Khadija Begum was carrying those forex without declaration and secretly, she disobeyed money laundering Act.
CIID arrested the passenger under Money Laundering and Customs law.
Besides, on another drive CIID recovered a gold ball and four bangals weighing .248 grams and .347 grams respectively.
Recovered gold is worth Tk 17, 35,000 and the passenger was an expat from Dubai UAE, identified as Mahbubul Alam, resident of Feni.
Mahbubul Alam secretly carried the gold ball inside a LED light and Bengals in his pocket and claimed that he was not carrying any gold in primary investigation of CIID.
Customs arrested Mahbubul Alam and filed a case according to the customs law.
