Staff Reporter :Customs Intelligence Department in two separate drives seized huge amount of foreign currencies and six gold bars from the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal Airport (HSIA) on Monday. They also have arrested two persons in this connection, Customs Officials said. Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate’s Assistant Director Umme Nahida said that a team of Customs officials conducted a drive in the Airport’s Green Channel Gate area around 9:30am and arrested a man. They recovered around 1.61 lakh Dirham and Tk 18,000 in cash from his possession. They picked up a passenger in this connection. He has been identified as Abdul Matin, 50, from Feni district.Matin was ready to leave for the United Arab Emirate (UAE) by an Emirates Airlines flight at about 10:00am, the Customs Officials said. Another team of Customs Officials conducted a drive in the airport’s Green Channel Gate area around 12:30pm and arrested a man. They recovered six gold bars worth around Tk. 20 lakh from his possession. The detained passenger has been identified as Farooq Hossain, 40, Nahida said. He came to Dhaka from Kuwait by a Bangladesh Airlines flight, she added. Both are being interrogated in this connection, the Customs Official said.
