Academic and research delegates from USA, Japan and India separately called on Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique on Monday at the latter’s office of the university.
The team members are Prof Dr Shingo Kimura of the Institute of Atmosphere and Ocean Research of Tokyo University, Prof Dr Michio J Kishi of the Faculty of Fisheries Sciences of Hokkaido University of Japan. Prof M Chakraborty, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar, India and Dr Avijit Gangopadhyay, Fulbright Professor of the School for Marine Science and Technology of University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, USA.
Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Dean of the Faculty of Earth & Environmental Sciences Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal and Chairman of the Department of Oceanography of Dhaka University Prof Dr Md Kawser Ahmed and Faculty members of various public and private universities in Bangladesh were present on the occasion.
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interest specially possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programs by the Department of Oceanography of Dhaka University and the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar.
They also stressed on regional cooperation and introducing joint collaborative academic and research programs on various issues including Bay of Bengal, river management, climate change, protection of Sundarbans and environment.
