M M Jasim :Foreign students studying in different public and private universities and medical and dental colleges across the country are under special care of varsity and college administrations, and law enforcing agencies, sources said. The foreign students say that they are also happy with the college authorities and the law enforcing agencies. Hundreds of foreign students are studying in the country’s universities and public and private medical and dental colleges at present.After the two foreigners’ killing incidents in Rangpur and Dhaka, the college administrations sought help from the law enforcers agencies for their foreign students and themselves took many steps to ensure security. The police responded to and arranged special security for the foreign students.Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muntasirul Islam told The New Nation on Friday that the DMP directed all the police stations in Dhaka in this regard. The Deputy Commissioner said, the police are always ready to meet the emergency.There are about 50 foreign students at Sir PJ Hartog Hall of Dhaka University (DU) studying in the DU and the Dhaka Medical College. The students were some sorts of scared after the killing incidents of the foreigners. But now they feel comfort. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique told The New Nation yesterday that the foreign students had no fear on the university campus. He said, the foreign students are happy with peaceful atmosphere in the university. The public and private medical college authorities in Rangpur are concerned about their foreign students after the killing of Japanese citizen there. There are about 300 foreign students studying in different public and private medical colleges in Rangpur. The colleges authorities took some initiatives to ensure the students’ security. The colleges imposed ban on movement of the students here and there. The students will go to colleges and come back to hostels without any interval. In case of need to go outside the colleges or hostel, the foreign students will be escorted by guards.The college authorities have already sought cooperation of police to avert any untoward incident in and outside the college campus. The police responded positively and gave assurance to the colleges to provide any kind of help for the foreign students, the colleges’ sources said. There are 23 foreign students in Rangpur Medical College. They have come form Nepal and India. The college authorities have taken extra security for them. The students are also happy with the college authorities’ decision. There are 108 students in Rangpur Community Medical College and 66 in Rangpur Community Dental College. They hail from Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and India. The colleges are run by the Rangpur Group. Managing Director of Rangpur Group Ashraful Alam said they also would provide special security and vehicles if the students want to go outside the colleges for shopping or others necessary. Attrita Bhotta Ray, a Rangpur Community Medical College student, from Nepal, said that the college security was good. “We are happy with the steps of the college authorities about our safety,” Bhotta Ray said. There are 80 foreign students studying in Prime Medical College. Managing Director of the college Shariful Islam said that they took all the initiative to maintain good atmosphere on the college campus. There is no problem for the students, as one platoon Ansar are patrolling on the campus, he said. Additional Police Superintendent of Rangpur Abdullah Faraque said, there in no security problem in Rangpur. “The law enforcing agencies, especially police are active to ensure good atmosphere for the students. The police are ready to provide help to the college authorities for the students,” he said.
