Foreign Secretary visits BARI

Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Masud Bin Momen (Senior Secretary) visited the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) on Saturday. During the visit, he inspected IPM and Toxicology Lab, Coffee and Almond Processing Lab, Aerophonics and Hydrophonics Laboratory, Flower Research Field and Cactus House of BARI.
Earlier in the morning, BARI Director General Dr. Md. Nazirul Islam with other directors welcomed the Secretary at the time of his arrival in the institute. BARI Director General Dr. Md. Nazirul Islam also presided over a brief meeting to highlight the overall activities of the institute in his conference room. Chief Scientific Officer of Agronomy Division Dr. Dilwar Ahmed Choudhury gave brief PowerPoint presentation on the activities and achievements of BARI.
Additional Secretary of SAARC and BIMSTEC Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Md. Shamsul Haque, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council Dr. Skeikh Mohammad Bokhtiar, Director General of the Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy Shah Ahmed Shafi, NDC, Director General of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute Dr. Md. Shahjahan Kabir, BARI Director (Research) Dr. Md. Miaruddin, Director (Support & Services) Dr. S. M. Sharifuzzaman, Director (Planning and Evaluation) Dr. Md. Kamrul Hasan, Director (Training and Communication) Dr. Muhammad Shamsul Alam, Director (Tuber Crop Research Center) Dr. Kabita Anju-Man-Ara, and scientists and officers of various division were, among others, present on the occasion.
In a brief speech, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Bangladesh has achieved enviable success in the field of agriculture. Even in the current Corona situation, we did not have to import food from abroad which reflects our potential in agriculture. Our agricultural research institutes and agricultural scientists play an important role in this regards. He hoped that Bangladesh will soon become self-sufficient in agricultural products exports after meeting the demand of the country and expressed his satisfaction seeing over the overall activities, progress and success of the Institute.
