The members of law enforcing agencies will maintain law and order by all counts during the nine days of Eid-ul-Fitr holidays that began on Friday last so that the members of the Muslim community celebrate the Eid joyfully.
The Police, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the Armed Police Battalions (APBn), the Community Police and the Ansar would keep patrolling day and night during the Eid holidays.
The special security measures have been
taken around shopping complexes, bus, train and launch terminals. The law enforcers have already been given instruction to ensure extra security measures.
Besides, the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry has opened a control room to monitor the safe journey of the passengers.
The control room, which is set up at Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office at city’s Tejgaon, will be operational for seven days from July 3 to July 9. Passengers have been asked to call to 02-9130662 or 01966622019 if they face any trouble during their journey.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia has said special security measures have been taken in the capital during Eid holidays.
He said, sufficient number of security forces have been deployed to prevent stealing and robbery in residences, offices and shopping malls. “We have issued instructions to the city’s 49 police stations to take steps in right direction,” the DMP Commissioner said.
He also urged the city residents to depart for homes keeping their Dhaka residences under strict security.
Meanwhile, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has also set up 56 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at different strategic points. According to the sources of CMP and district police, the additional security measures will exist for four days from the previous day of the Eid.
Iqbal Bahar, Commissioner of CMP, told the media that all the police stations and camps had already been given instruction in this regard.
Anwar Hosain Khan, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kishoreganj district, told The New Nation, “We are fully ready to meet emergencies at Sholakia and other Eid congregation fields in the district. About 800 members of law enforcing agencies would guard the Sholakia Eidgah field alone.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, the government would deal with an iron hand if anyone tries to commit crime in the country. He also urged the people to inform the police if anyone breaks law.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) A K M Shahidul Hoque said that everything would be done to maintain law and order. He also requested the countrymen not to be scared after the Gulshan restaurant attack.
