Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has chalked out fool-proof security arrangement in two stadiums of the port city to ensure smooth holding of the upcoming ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup
matches in Chittagong.
Decision regarding the security measures was taken at a joint meeting between the law enforcement agencies and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin, also the Vice President of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) at CMP headquarters on Saturday morning.
As per decision, the CMP authority would take full proof security measures centring the two match venues – Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium and MA Aziz Stadium.
The meeting also decided to ensure maximum security, uninterrupted power supply and utility services in the two stadiums during the matches.
Speaking at the meeting, CCC mayor AZM Nasir Uddin said Chittagong is an abode of peace and safety for citizens of all countries of the world.
“All concerned including the law-enforcers and intelligence agencies are pledge-bound to hold the international matches in a smooth and peaceful manner”, the mayor asserted.
He also called upon the city dwellers to cooperate with the law enforcers for holding the matches peacefully.
Presided over by CMP Additional Commissioner AKM Shahidur Rahman, the meeting was attended, among others, by BCB official Mahbubul Alam, CMP Deputy Commissioners- Masudul Hasan, Harunur Rashid Hayat, Hasan Mohammad Showkot Ali and venue managers of two stadiums- Fazle Rabbi Khan Rubel and Abdul Hannan Akbar.
Besides tournament matches, practice and warm-up matches will be held at the two stadiums.
Cricket teams from West Indies, Zimbabwe, South Africa, England, Fiji, Namibia and host Bangladesh will be participating in the ICC WC tournament to be held between January 20 and February 2.
