Police for the third consecutive day barred the supply of food and water to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the city on Friday.
Some party leaders, office staff and security personnel staying inside the office have been taking dry food since Wednesday night after the law enforcers were obstructing the supply of food and water.
Shamsuddin Didar, a member of BNP’s media wing, said that police,
deployed around the Gulshan office, took away the food and water from the gate at about 1:30 PM on Friday. Police also intercepted a rickshaw-van carrying breakfast in the morning, he added.
He alleged that police stopped them from going out of the office to buy food. He feared that they might be arrested if they tried to go out. “Everyone in the office was living on dry food. “It is extreme inhuman behavior with us, as supply of food and water continues to jail but police are taking away our food and water,” he said.
Khaleda Zia has been staying in the office since January 3. More than 50 people, including BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman and Mohila Dal General Secretary Shirin Sultana, have also been staying at the office with the BNP chief since then.
