Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Friday condemned the mass shootings at the two mosques in Christchurch of New Zealand during Friday Congregation
“I am deeply shocked at this uncivilised act, which goes against humanitarian values and terrified the civilians,” he said.
The Minister said this while talking to reporters at the Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Friday.
He said also, there is no reason for the Bangladesh Cricket team to stay in New Zealand any more
after such inexplicable brutality. “We are fortunate to have seen cricketers unhurt. We will bring them home immediately,” he said.
The Foreign Minister said, “We don’t have any mission in New Zealand, but we are getting all updates about the attacks through our Australian High Commissioner Sufiur Rahman.”
As New Zealand is a safe country and is terrorism-free, said Momen the tragic incident is appalling for the country indeed.
Responding to a query over possibility of such attack in Bangladesh, Momen said, “We are highly active in resisting such evil attempts in our country as our security forces are doing a good job in this regard.”
One gunman only killed 49 people and wounded more than 48 during the Jumma prayers on Friday at two New Zealand mosques in the country’s worst ever mass shooting which Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern condemned as “An act of terrorism”.
Bangladesh Cricket Team players, who are now in Christchurch, survived the attack by narrow margin and all of them are now safe.
When they were going to one of the mosques to offer prayers, the incident took place. Hearing the sound of shooting, they returned to their hotel safely.
