The New Nation made a flying start in the Walton-BSJC Media Cricket Tournament defeating Jamuna TV by five wickets in their opening Group B match at the Moulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing Jamuna TV’s fighting total of 68 for the loss of five wickets in the allotted six overs, The New Nation romped home making 72 for the loss of one wicket when they had five balls to spare.
Rayhanul Islam Abir of The New Nation remained unbeaten with 44. He hit four sixes and three fours. Besides, he took three catches. Abir was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
Tonoy of The New Nation scored 13 before he was caught by Sami off Badhan.
Shamol Chandra Bissas of The New Nation remained unbeaten with three runs.
Kamruzzaman Bablu of The New Nation grabbed three wickets at the cost of 10 runs while Kazi Zahidul Hasan and Shamol Chandra Bissas took one wicket each for eight and 13 runs respectively.
Today The New Nation will face SA TV at 10.30 am at the same venue.
Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder, MP inaugurated the cricket meet by releasing the balloons as the chief guest while Executive Director of Walton Group SM Zahid Hasan, Operative Director of Walton Group Uday Hakim, Senior Deputy Director of Walton Group Feroz Alam, Vice-President of Bangladesh Hockey Federation Shafiullah Al Munir, General Secretary of Bangladesh Athletics Federation Ibrahim Changish were with him as special guests.
The officials of Bangladesh Sports Journalists Community (BSJC) were present at the time.
In the day’s other matches, ATN News 51/3 beat BD News 24 48/4 by three wickets, GTV 104/3 defeated Banik Barta 99/2 by three wickets, Channel i 121/2 thrashed Sangbad Protidin 23/6 by 98 runs, BTV 55/0 crushed Manabkantha 54/4 by six wickets, Bangla Tribune 126/3 smashed The Daily Star 54/6 by 72 runs at the same venue.
