Flood situation in Bogra has worsened due to the Jamuna water level has risen 14 cm in the last 24 hours ending on Friday.
About 13 thousand people have been marooned under Sariekandi, Dhunat upzila of the district. Now water of Jamuna River is flowing 58 cm above the danger level.
Due to the worsen situation of the flood, Kutubpur, kamalpur, Chandonbaisha, Kornibari, Chaluabari, Bohail, entire Kazla union, Sariakandi sadar, Hut Sherpur of Sariakandi upzila and Vanderbari union of Dhunat upzila have been submerged. About 13 thousand people become water-bound. As the people of these area are searching for new shelter in the nearby embankment. As the water of Jamuna River flooded the area, people have been facing food, pure drinking water and fuel crisis.
Sources said, till now 3340 hectors of crop land under sariakandi upzila has gone under water. Teaching activities have been stopped in 58 govt. primary schools, 6 high schools and a madrasa due to the flood.
About 100 hectares of crop field have been flooded under Dhunat upzila. Teaching activities have been stopped in 5 govt. primary schools and a high schools as the water of the flood flooded the area. Sanowar Alom, Project Implementation Officer of Sariakandi upzila informed one hundred tons of rice has been allotted as relief in this upzila.
Razaul Islam, (PTO) Project Implementation Officer Dhunat Upazila informed, relief goods have been demanded with a view to distributing among 1085flood hit families. Relief goods will be allotted soon, he expects.
BSS from Jamalpur adds: The overall flood situation in the district further deteriorated as the water level in Jamuna river was continuing to rise.
Bangladesh Water Development Board officials said, Jamuna rose by 3 cm and was flowing 87 cm over the red mark at Bahadurabad Ghat point in the last 24 hours till 12 noon today.
With the continuous rising of the water level, more fresh areas of Islampur, Dewanganj, Melandaha, Sarishabari, Madarganj. Bakshiganj and Jamalpur sadar upazila in the district were inundated by the flood water.
District Relief and Rehabilitation office said flood water affected about two lakh people living in 403 villages in all the seven upazilas of the district.
District Training Officer at Department of Agriculture Extension, Md Abu Hanif said flood water submerged standing crops on 6,220 hectares of land. Of them, T-Aman seed bed on 307 hectares, vegetables on 1,064 hectares, Aus paddy on 644 hectares, jute on 4,190 hectares and other crop on 15 hectares of land have been inundated, he added.
District Relief and Rehabilitation officer, Tanvir Hossain said 250 tonnes of rice, Tk 4 lakhs 75 thousands in cash and 4 thousands packets of dried food were distributed among the flood victims till today.
