Over flooding has gripped Sylhet region drowning people, washing away villages at many places as gushing water has destroyed river embankments on rives. Torrential rains in the region across border in Indian Magalaya state ahead of Eid has moreover aggravated the flood with water gushing from Borak and Lova river on the Indian causing havoc in the entire Sylhet region.
At least 7 people were reportedly killed in flood related incidents, mostly running water. Local administration has opened rescue and relief operations but. Four army teams are working in Moulovi Bazar, the worst hit area from flood caused by Mono and Dhola rivers using 18 speed boats. Latest reports said water in both rivers are slowly 0reseeding but still flowing over danger level. A total of 74 medical team are also working in the flood hit areas
Surma and Koshiara is flowing above danger level causing flood in vast areas of Zakigonj, Beani Bazar, Guainghat, Jointapur in Sylhet inundating villages and washing away fish and livestock. Embankments on river Surma and Koshiara have been washed away at least at 25 places causing havoc to the localities.. Moulovi Bazar town is under knee level water as river Mono, Dholai I flowing above danger levelwashing embankments at 25 places. Many fear flood may spread to Sunamganj as flood water is flowing downward.
At least five persons were killed and thousands of people got stranded in flooding in four upazila of Moulavibazar district in last several days following rain and onrush of hilly water.
The deceased were Sattar Mia, 55, Kamal Mia, 40 and Karim Mia 25. Identifies of others are yet to be known.
Confirming the casualties, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Moulavibazar district Ashrafur Rahman said the army has joined efforts to rescue stranded locals in the four upazilas from last night.
The nonstop downpour for the last several days along with onrush of hilly water from Indian state of Tripura has stranded thousands of people in four upazilas- Kamalganj, Rajnagar, Kulaura and Moulavibazar sadar upazilas of the districts.
Water of river Monu had overflowed into the Moulvibazar sadar upazila breaking flood control dams.
The flood caused paucity of drinking water and food. Road communications of Moulvibazar has been halted with four upazilas and Sylhet. Road communication of Sylhet town with Zakigonj is snapped at many places.
Habigong, cracks emerged in the embankment of Khoi river causing panic to villages in the area. People fear that the dam on the river bank may collapse at any time to destroy ctrops, homes and livestock.
