Low areas of the district have been flooded due to continuous downpour for the last four days and onrush of hilly water.
As a result, at least 3,000 acres of vegetable gardens under nine upazilas of the district have been affected immensely.
District Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said vegetable belt Kaladeva, Battali, Golabari, Ganjapara, Muslimpara and Mehedibug area under Sadar upazila while Chhoto Merung, Bachha Merung, Boro Merung, Sobahanpur, Shantipur, Kobakhali of Dighinala upazila, Fatemanagor, Pujgangmukh, Latiban of Panchhari upazila, Tabalchhari, Gumti, Natunpara of Matirnga, Gachhabil, College Para, Tintahori of Manikchhari upazila and many other villages were affected by flash flood causing heavy losses.
Sub-Assistant Agricul- ture Officer Ranjit Chakraborty said farmers are worst sufferers of flash flood as most of the vegetable gardens in the whole district situated at the bank of Chengi-Mainee and Feni rivers.
While contacted, Deputy Commissioner Md Masud Karim said he was asked to calculate the losses of farmers and then the report will be sent to the higher authority.
