Flamengo secured their eighth straight victory in Brazil’s Serie A championship on Wednesday with a 3-1 win over nine-man Internacional.
Gabriel Barbosa was awarded a penalty in the 20th minute after dribbling past goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba, only to have his shot blocked by Bruno Vieira’s left arm.
The Internacional full-back was shown a straight red card and Barbosa dually converted his attempt by sending Lomba the wrong way.
The visitors were reduced to nine men just before halftime when Paolo Guerrero was also shown a straight red card for a heated verbal exchange with referee Luiz Oliveira after the Peru striker clashed with Rodrigo Caio.
