Fixed income people suffer for rice price hike in Kishoreganj

People ‘s extreme suffering to cope with escalating cost of living continues as the price of rice increased unusually in Kishoreganj and elsewhere across the country.
Showing the fuel price hiking, the rice millers,traders increased the price of both coarse and fine rice in Kishoreganj ‘s retail markets tk..5 to 15 per kg, causing immense sufferings to the livelihoods of the commoners.
The Per kg coarse variety of rice especially Bri-28 is now being sold at Tk 57 Besides, the fine varieties also continue showing an upward trend since Sunday.
one kg Pijam rice was sold at Tk 86 to 88 The price of rice has increased up to Taka five to Tk 15 per kg. Millers and traders have raised the rice price, saying the fare of trucks travelling to Dhaka, Chattogram from elsewhere in the country has increased by Tk 3,000 to Tk 5,000 based on the distance.
 The price of rice, the main staple food of the country alongside the prices of all kinds of daily essentials including, edible oil, lentil, fish, meat,egg and vegetables. Making the fuel price an issue, an unholy nexus of mill owners, importers and hoarders has deliberately increased the price of the main staple food through syndication when the country’.
Mohila Parishad in Kishoreganj president advocate Maya Bhowmick said, A powerful syndicate of big traders and wholesalers seized the opportunity to hike the price after creating an artificial crisis.
Md.Shahbuddin, a retail rice in Bara Bazar, Kishorganj said, We are selling rice as per our buying price keeping only marginal profit.
The government should launch countrywide drive against illegal rice and paddy hoarders aiming to maintain smooth food supply chain for consumers.
When the hardship of the low-income groups has deteriorated further amid persisting financial uncertainty, dishonest millers, hoarders, rice traders and rich farmers are now busy with stockpiling paddy to sell it after some days at higher prices.
DC in Kishoreganj Mohammad Shamim Alam said that, district administration is monitoring the market and hopes that the price will be under control.
Kishorganj ‘s CAB president Alam Sarowar Tito, its general secretary Monowar Hossein Rony,they saids, the powerful syndicates are rules in kitchen markets.
Fixed income people sufferings due to soaring prices of essentials including rice,sugar,edible oil, atta, and other essentials despite having availability of the items in the kitchen market.
CAB have called for creaking down on syndicates of treaders as they hike the prices of essential commodities.
