A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Police in a drive arrested five alleged members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Sherpur upazila of Bogura on Wednesday morning.
The detainees are: Md Shahidullah alias Masum alias Gopal, 46, Md Bulbul alias Shohag, 32, Md Masud Rana,31, son of Md Ekaramul Haque, Md Atikur Rahman alias Soikat and Md Mizanur Rahman Mizan alias Tailor (Dorzi) Mizan, said Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan, Superintendent of Police in the district.
Acting on a tip-off, some DB members arrested them from
Mirzapur Ranirhat Bazar area of the upazila around 1:30am, the police official said.
One 7.65 pistol, one 9mm pistol, two magazines, 10 rounds bullets, three sharp Burmese knives and one handcuff were recovered from the spot, the SP said.
Among the detainees, Md Shahidullah is the head of JMB’s Rangpur and Rajshahi division and Bulbul is the head of Rajshahi district, he added.
A case was filed with the police station in this regard.
