Five meritorious students of University Laboratory School and College have been awarded Shahid Sheikh Russel Memorial Scholarship for their outstanding academic performances. The recipients of the scholarships are- Nafisa Akter Tuli, Arafat Bhuiyan, Md. Siam Islam, Sanjan Saha and Md. Fihaj Alam, said a DU press release. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman distributed scholarships among the students as chief guest at a function on Thursday at the school auditorium.
Prof Akhtaruzzaman said Sheikh Russell, youngest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was killed along with most of his family members on August 15, 1975 when he was a student of class IV at University Laboratory School. The August 15 carnage was a barbaric act of massacre in the history which will be remembered forever,” he said.
Director of the Institute of Education & Research (IER) Prof. Syeda Tahmina Akhter, Acting Principal of University Laboratory School & College Mrs Selina Banu, among others, addressed it.
