The Anti-kidnapping Squad, a Detective Branch special team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, arrested seven alleged gunrunners, including a woman, in their separate drives in the city’s Saidabad and Jatrabari areas on Monday night.
The detectives also recovered five foreign-made pistols along with 28 bullets and 6.2 kgs of explosives from their possessions.
Sources at the DB Headquarters said, the drives were conducted following the statements of eight fake policemen, arrested by the squad members from the city’s Aftabnagar area on Sunday night.
Acting on the information, a team of the
Anti-kidnapping Squad, led by assistant commissioner Jahangir Alam, conducted simultaneous drives in Jatrabari and Saidabad areas from Monday evening and arrested the alleged seven gunrunners and recovered the five pistols, 28 bullets and 6.2 kg exclusives from their possessions.
The arrestees are: Nizamuddin, 50, Saddam Hossain, Ashraful, 26, Kabila, 22, Zillur Rahman, 23, Raqibul Hasan Raqib, 22, and Seema, 20.
The DMP formed the ‘Anti-kidnapping Squad’ comprising members of the Detective Branch (DB) headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanwar Hossain to resist kidnapping bids, arrest kidnapers and rescue the victims in the Dhaka city in the wake of the recent abduction spree.
