Five people die with corona-like symptoms

At least five persons died with symptoms similar to that of coronavirus in four districts in the last 24 hours.
Out of the death, two were in Dhaka, and one each in Sylhet, Pirojpur and Tangail districts.
However, the authorities concerned have so far confirmed five deaths linked to coronavirus in the country.
In Dhaka, two people suffering from cold and fever died in Keraniganj and Nawabganj upazilas on Monday.
The deceaed were identified as Pannu Mia, 58 and Foysal, 40.
Pannu Mia, a rickshaw puller, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka, died around 12 at night, said Health and Family Planning officer of Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex Dr Mohammad Shahidul Islam.
Pannu Mia with cough, fever and respiratory problem went to Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex on Monday afternoon, said Dr Shahidul. Later, he was sent to the ICU unit as his condition deteriorated.
As Pannu’s condition deteriorated further, he was sent to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital in city’s Uttara where he died around 12 at night.
Besides, three people, including an elderly man aged about 85, have been kept at the isolation unit of Nababganj Upazila Health Complex, said Dr Shahidul.
Foysal Ahmed, 40, son of Nasir Uddin of Mandail, had been suffering from fever and cold for the last 20 days. Family of Foysal said they took him to different hospitals in Dhaka but failed to admit him to any hospital. Later, he died in the evening.
Kazi Mainul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Keraniganj Model Police station, said they have heard about the death of Foysal.
In Sylhet, a 16-year-old girl died of cardiac failure at an isolation centre
The girl, who was admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital’s isolation centre in Sylhet this afternoon, died of congestive cardiac failure and Cor Pulmonale, doctors said.
She was suffering from heart complexities for months, said Dr Himangshu Lal Roy, deputy director of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
She breathed her last at around 2:30pm, minutes after she was admitted to the isolation centre at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, which is under MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, said Dr Premananda Mandal, Civil Surgeon of Sylhet.
The girl from Balaganj upazila was referred to the isolation centre as she was suffering from breathing problems, said Sushanta Kumar Mahapatra, Resident Medical Officer of Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.
Her body was handed over to her family. She would not be tested for coronavirus.
Earlier in the day, the physician said that the girl was admitted to the isolation centre with several critical symptoms, not all related to coronavirus.
In Pirojpur, an SSC examinee who had been suffering from cold, cough and fever for the last four days died in Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur on Tuesday.
The 17-year-old boy died after he began to cough up blood and also bled from the nose this noon. He had been suffering from fever, cold and cough for the last four days, said HM Jahirul Islam, the upazila health and family planning officer.
Jahirul said they have collected necessary samples from the body for a test and had already contacted the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) in this regard. “We will take further steps after getting instructions from the IEDCR.”
Following the death, the upazila administration has brought under lockdown the entire village, said Md Nazmul Alam, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer.
Local union parishad and upazila administration will provide food to the isolated families, he said, adding that the measures will be lifted if the body tests negative for coronavirus.
In Tangail, a man suffering from cold, cough and fever died in Tangail’s Madhupur upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased is Hobibur Rahman Hobi, 35, of Tekkar Bazar village under Mohishmara union. He worked as a hawker in Gazipur, but had returned to the village on March 22 after falling ill, Kazi Motaleb Hossain, chairman of Mohishmara union parishad told the media.
Hossain said Hobi had fever when he returned from Dhaka. He had diarrhoea since Monday and started vomiting blood on yesterday morning and died at noon, the UP chairman added.
Confirming the matter, Arifa Johura, Upazila Nirbahi Officer in Madhupur, said that when informed, a medical team from the upazila health complex was sent to the house to collect sample.
The deceased’s other family members were also kept in isolation, she added.
When contacted, Dr Mohammad Waheduzzaman, Civil Surgeon in Tangail, said that a medical team comprising Dr Rubina Yeasmin, the upazila health officer in Madhupur and a physician trained by the IEDCR, went to the house to collect the deceased’s sample.
“The sample will be sent to Dhaka for examination to confirm whether he was infected with coronavirus,” the civil surgeon said.
“The deceased will be buried under the supervision of the same team,” he added.
The IEDCR confirmed two more cases of coronavirus infection on Tuesday, taking the total number of positive tests to 51.
