Five militants arrested

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in separate drives arrested five members of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam (AAI) and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in the capital’s Mirpur and Rajsahi’s
Tanore upazila early Sunday.
The Shahadat Hossain Sajeeb, 32, Ishtiaq Ahmed alias Robin alias Ovi, 28, Shahebjan Ali, 35, Abul Kalam Azad, 28, and Jahangir Alam, 28, said RAB officials.
RAB detained Shahadat and Ishtiaq, alleged members of Ansar Al Islam, at Mirpur early Sunday, said RAB-11 Assistant Superintendent Alep Uddin.
Shahadat is an media section member while Ishtiaq is an defense section member of Ansar Al Islam, the RAB official said.
Meanwhile, RAB arrested Shahebjan, Azad and Jahangir with bomb-making materials from Bilsahar village of Tanore upazila around 3:30am on Sunday, said RAB-5 Commander Lt Col Mohammad Mahbubul Alam.
RAB seized 500g of gunpowder, two books of extremist propaganda, 40g of soda, 40g of chalk, seven extremist propaganda leaflets and other bomb-making materials in their possession, he said.
